Dr. Haverde Warner, a dedicated community servant, educator, and advocate for cultural and environmental preservation, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, service, and quiet leadership that enriched Mills County and all who knew him.
A valued member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Botanical Gardens & Native American Interpretive Center, Inc. since 2007 (and Board President from 2021–2022), Haverde approached decisions with integrity and compassion, helping the Gardens to grow as a welcoming, meaningful place for the community and for future generations. He also brought insight, guidance, and a deep respect for the land and its history to every aspect of the organization’s mission. With a doctorate in Natural Medicine, a Naturopathic M.D., and intense interest in the rich diversity of Hill Country vegetation, he served as an early consultant to the Gardens on the chemistry and medicinal uses of native plants. His passion for learning and teaching made him a natural advocate for the Gardens’ work in ecological education, native plant conservation, and the interpretation of Indigenous history.
During his years of board service, Haverde contributed to educational initiatives, long-range planning, and community outreach efforts that strengthened the Gardens’ role as a cultural crossroads in Goldthwaite. He believed deeply in the power of education, stewardship, and shared heritage—and he worked tirelessly to uphold these values through his service.
Beyond his work with the Gardens, Haverde was known for his kindness, humility, and wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but for the warmth and sincerity he brought to every conversation and every friendship.
Haverde Warner’s absence will be felt profoundly, yet his contributions will continue to shape the Gardens and the wider community he loved. It was his explicit wish that memorial donations be used to further the mission of the Gardens and its future endeavors.
The Board of Directors and Staff extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones and express our heartfelt gratitude for his years of devoted service.
